Sarasota has a large Amish and Mennonite population, which I hadn’t known before we came to visit. It’s centered around a neighborhood community called Pinecraft, close to where we got the ice cream. (Ann Marie’s Southern Cream ice cream truck.) The New Yorker ran a short photo feature about Pinecraft a few years ago. (Thanks, Emma!)

“Do you become obsessed with sweaters you see in films or TV?” Scottish knitting designer Kate Davies reflects on knitted items from movies and TV. Her post is also useful for new TV recs: “Like many knitters, I imagine, I was very struck with the cosy oversized sweater that Grö / Trine Dyrholm sported for several episodes in Danish series Arvingerne / The Legacy.”

“…if you are both beautiful and durable, you’ll have a much better chance of success in this world.” January’s birthstone is garnet, and I am very much enjoying these monthly guides from the jewelry website At Present.
