I always feel so many things as I read through your stories and drawings, Edith. The girls’ disappointment ..the eyes of the mid-mermaid-transformation potion maker (can’t tell for sure)? And the hope and promise of freedom in a bottle! Wow.
I used to volunteer to help third graders improve their reading. One time I was reading a book about a mermaid with a sweet girl and we got into a discussion about how mermaids weren't real... but fun to tell stories about. She disagreed. She was convinced they were real. She couldn't believe that I disagreed. We went back and forth for a while neither of us convincing the other. I love that your strip reminded me of that moment.
