Cherish the days you don't have to buy them gifts. it's not weird. i told James his main present when he turns 10 will be a later bedtime.
We have a thing here called Sauna Club--it's by the lake and you pay $20 for a half hour. You can either go jump in the lake and back in the sauna or do the ol bucket + ladle. Steve was like "What are the health benefits of this exactly?" and I was like "I don't know, it just feels nice and I'm in a good mood afterwards." I try to go Friday mornings. I figure $20 per week is better than the $100+ per week I used to spend on weed.
I spent the fall of 2023 in Minneapolis and lived right down the street from a communal sauna place. It was INCREDIBLE. I went a few times a week. Met many awesome sober people there. I still think of that place all the time. DO IT.
I used to go to a sauna place in San Francisco that had a sign saying "A woman is never as beautiful as she is an hour the sauna." It's true!
Now I go to a Korean bath house for the sauna and cold plunge. We've talked of getting an infrared one for our house but really it's more fun to go there and chat with other women.
ps not sure about sober people - I was in a public one with some Russians, father and son, who wanted to pour beer on the rocks. It made it SO HOT - the son had to go out and the father laughed at him. I was tough and stayed.
Way out of my realm of experience, but I have to say it sure looks like a beautiful Birthday. Thanks for sharing it such a beautiful way. You're definitely an artist!!!
You are already an artist. You’re already doing it! You’re already there.
Seconded

Rachel Syme did the “goings on about town” column in the New Yorker last week about new saunas so I think you are onto something 🔥❄️

Please start a bath house! I just... Need it to be in London. Ideally in an enchanted snowy forest.
Should be pretty straightforward

1000% (the other women part). And the rest, too! I’d love to take a yearlong tour of worldwide bathhouse traditions…..
happy birthday! do the bell hats do anything other than make our heads look extra pointy whilst sauna-ing?
I was told they keep the head cooler so you can spend more time in there, but I am not actually sure!
My life plan is become an artist, and then become an artist again, and then? become an artist again
😮
Also came here to say to please start a bathhouse! Since moving to Kingston this winter, all I’ve wanted was a sauna to go to
