i lived in florida for 3 years (quite a while ago) and i was really struck by the birds, too! They seem so exotic and strange and beautiful to my northern, midwestern eyes.

Aren't they amazing? It feels like walking into an alternate universe.

if you're in southern florida, i can recommend that you go to Shark Valley down in the southern everglades....its a national park (?) in the everglades where you can take a little tram along a paved road into the wetlands and to an observation tower. You see a lot of cool birds, and some alligators and maybe turtles. It isn't expensive (free? i can't remember) and was really pretty cool. Maybe not happening now because of Covid? worth looking into if you're close to that area.

I would love to do that. Thank you, Colin! I will poke around...

Edith if you really fall down the bird rabbit hole there are a couple other apps you might want to check out: Cornell University's Merlin Bird ID, one of the most comprehensive databases of bird photos, calls, and info (plus a neat identification wizard); and Song Sleuth, which lets you record a snippet of a bird call and tries to match it to a bird in your region. Have fun!

I just got Merlin! It's amazing. I'm terrorizing Tom by playing all the birds' calls

I thought of you when I read that 24 hour running race article earlier! It seemed like it should have been more climatic?

We should run it together someday and see what happens...
