I suffered depression when my daughter was small and despaired that I didn’t have the energy to do much with her. My psychiatrist gave this great advice: just sit on the floor with her while she plays. Having you there is all that matters. Later in high school when she was often embarrassed when I interacted with her in public esp with friends around, again I learned how deeply it mattered to her that I show up to her games, concerts etc. just being there is so important—we don’t have to throw ourselves into active engagement.

Not quite the same, but I've gotten into ecstatic dance in the last few years. Like, it just feels good to dance!!! Sounds so fun to do it with your girl. How sweet. 🫶🏼

It is, or for me it was (because my daughters are grown up now) so, so lovely to just watch (them) without having to do anything. I totally get what you mean, and I love your twirling ribbon footer Edith.

it's great when they participate because it's such a drag when they don't and it's hard not to wonder if you are wasting money etc. It would make me so inexplicably mad when James wouldn't do the dumb little games in Little Kickers!

Delightful as always. Whenever I'm having a shitty day, I just remember to spent a little time with my kids (7yo and 10yo), and that helps literally everything.
